Hornets Lose to Liberators

Hillcrest vs Bolivar

The Bolivar Liberators came to town this afternoon and got away with a 4-0 win on the Hornet’s pitch. The Hornets came out strong and had several opportunities early and were playing even with the Liberators until midway through the half when senior Jesse Ankrom slipped through the defense and went in alone on the keeper. Peter Casey scored a second goal for Bolivar shortly afterwards.

The Hornets defense stiffened, exmemplefied by Eresta Sombolinggi’s clearance in the photo above, and the boys went on the attack again for the remainder of the half. Despite several opportunities, they were thwarted by Bolivar’s experienced senior GK. The second half saw Bolivar come out tough but the Hornet’s weathered the storm and were pushing into the offensive end again on a regular basis but the final touch was missing today. Goalkeeper Mitchell Boyles kept the game close when he stopped a Penalty Kick in the 60th minute but as the game wound down the Liberators got two more goals as the Hornets pushed men forward in an attempt to equalize.

The boys travel to Lebanon Thursday for an away match and face Glendale at home next Tuesday.

Bolivar match postponed

Tonights game vs. Bolivar has been canceled due to an extremely wet field. We will practice tomorrow right after school. Bring running shoes only and meet at the track.

Update - The Bolivar match is rescheduled for Wednesday Oct. 5 at 4:00.

Schedule Addition

Please notice the addition to our schedule. We will play Willard at home on Thursday, 9/29 at 4:30 pm

Hornets Lose to Lakers

The Hornets battled the Camdenton Lakers tonight. The final score was 4-0, with the Lakers scoring one goal in the first half and three in the second. Coach Frierson thought that his players continued to show improvement. He is especially proud of the defense. Frierson says

“our defensive players have obviously become comfortable in their positions and they communicate well with each other back there.”

Camdenton’s first two goals came off of corner kicks. Coach Frierson admits that because of size the Hornets are vulnerable in the air. Hillcrest keeper, Taylor Hill, continues to make great improvements by becoming more aggressive as well as more vocal. The team faces Bolivar at home this Thursday at 4:00

Hornets Defeat Marshfield

Marshfield vs Hillcrest The Marshfield Jays hosted the Hillcrest Hornets Thursday evening. In a game that was entertaining and very active, the Hornets earned their first win on the season while spoiling the Jay’s home opener. The teams were evenly matched and as a seasoned observer shared with me (he’s seen this game each of the past four years) he was very impressed with the level of play and continuing improvement both teams have made. The key difference was the final result, 3-0 with the game winning goal coming from freshman Erestu Sombolinggi in the first half. Freshman Ben Ballhorn and senior captain Brady Collier scored as well.
